Peacock!

Another image of one of the peacocks on the Preston ranch.

An ostentation of Peacocks.

“Do peacocks lay eggs?”

“No.”

“But they’re birds! Don’t birds lay eggs?”

“No, only about half of them do”

“Only half?!”

“Just the females.”

“But, peacocks…”

“Peahens lay eggs. Peacocks are males of the peafowl species.”

“Oh…”

(It’s a pride of lions, a gaggle of geese on the ground, a skein of geese in the air, an exaltation of larks, a parliament of owls, a rafter of turkeys, an unkindness of ravens, and an ostentation of peacocks. That is, IMSHO, The. Best. Collective. Noun. EVAR. )

Monochrome Sierra Foothills Spring

Just like the last one, only monochrome. Trying out new software.

Just keep on walking, Mr. Bobcat!

First, my apologies for the blurry picture; This bobcat appeared suddenly, and I was too excited to bump the ISO and speed up the shutter. He paid little attention to the raft of wild turkeys, but the turkey hens sure paid attention to him.

Alpenglow on Oak trees.

The setting sun gave the loveliest warm glow to these oak trees across the road from the Preston farm on White Rock Road. This is quintessential California to me. Can you see my shadow?

A year ago today: Poppies!

March 16, 2009: One of the most spectacular displays of wildflowers along the Merced River canyon in at least a decade. Let’s hope it comes back this year.
