Pano from below Sentinel Dome

Be sure to click through to see the larger size of this. Shot from just below Sentinel Dome on June 4th, 2009. I stitched this image from two shots.

From the Vault: Conversation

This shot isn’t very good technically, to be honest. But I still love it because it looks like Half Dome is holding a conversation with the little tree on the right.

From the Vault: Climbing into Moonlight

Climbing into Moonlight

Taken Sept 7th, 2006. The white dot just below the visor of Half Dome is a climber. The full moon had not yet risen over the ridge to the right of Half Dome. This really is best viewed large on Flickr.

From the Vault: Uzume dances for Amateratsu

P1110074.jpg

Taken January 11, 2007. Ame-no-Usume, a Kami of Japanese Shinto, danced to draw Amateratsu from the cave in which she was hiding. As I watched from Cooks Meadow, the sun retreated behind the mountains to the west and a wind kicked up snow on the visor of Half Dome. It danced and swirled, and suddenly a last ray of sunlight illuminated the snow.

El Capitan Alpen Glow

PC090420.jpg

It was *cold* at Tunnel View tonight. Next time I’m taking a few blankets and some hot tea with me. I’m glad I stayed, though, because I was rewarded with this lovely view of alpen glow on El Capitan, the first time I’d ever seen it. Dave, you should have stayed, pal. Print available here.

Bon Hiver!

Bon Hiver, everybody. First light on Half Dome and Clouds’ Rest.

Another Black Friday image. This was shot from Glacier Point at sunset as the moon was rising. I love the way shadows creep across the face of Half Dome as the sun falls at the end of the day.
