All too often I see people packing it in far too early around here; Tonight was a prime example. This sequence (straight from the camera, no post processing) shows the light fading and then returning.

From the Vault: Uzume dances for Amateratsu

P1110074.jpg

Taken January 11, 2007. Ame-no-Usume, a Kami of Japanese Shinto, danced to draw Amateratsu from the cave in which she was hiding. As I watched from Cooks Meadow, the sun retreated behind the mountains to the west and a wind kicked up snow on the visor of Half Dome. It danced and swirled, and suddenly a last ray of sunlight illuminated the snow.

El Capitan Alpen Glow

PC090420.jpg

It was *cold* at Tunnel View tonight. Next time I’m taking a few blankets and some hot tea with me. I’m glad I stayed, though, because I was rewarded with this lovely view of alpen glow on El Capitan, the first time I’d ever seen it. Dave, you should have stayed, pal. Print available here.
