First, I have to apologize for the rather crappy quality of this shot. I’m sorry. In my defense, let me say that it was at the bottom of a narrow staircase, and that even so “noonlight” was rather harsh.

That said, take a good look at the decorative hinges. You’ll see seagulls, waves and dolphins frolicking–on what appears to be a cellar door in a castle in Death Valley. Somebody had a weird sense of humor, or the architect got a deal on surplus art deco hinges!
